Adam was born in Heidelbeck Township, PA, in Jul, 1836.7,8,5
Adam, Eliza, Malinda, Isaac, William, Sarah, Eliza, Henry and Caroline was listed as a household member living with David Langel on the 1850 Census in Violet Township, Fairfield Co, OH.8
He married Susan Weaver in Fairfield, Butler Co, OH, on Oct 14, 1858.9,7
Adam was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Liberty Township, Fairfield Co, OH. Adam was a farmer, with $4400 in real property and $1800 in personal property. Theo, Charles, Laura, and William had attended school in the past year.10
Adam was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Liberty Township, Fairfield Co, OH. Adam was a farmer; Theo, Charles and William were "app. farmer"s which I assume means apprentice farmer. Charles, Laura, William, Jacob, and David attended school in the last year.11
Adam Langel suffered a loss when the boiler exploded at his saw mill on Dec 31, 1887 in Etna Township, Licking Co, OH.12
Aug 15, 1888, Adam Langel presented David Langel's will for probate. The judge set a hearing date and ordered notification to the heirs.13
Aug 23, 1888, Adam returned to court, the witnesses confirmed David's signature on the will, and the will was accepted. Adam was named executor of his father's estate.13
Aug 23, 1888, Adam paid court fees of $12.55.14
The estate was inventoried and appraised at $1,170, Oct 8, 1888.15
David's estate was sold at public auction Oct 9, 1888.16
Adam submitted a first account of David's estate in Fairfield Co, OH, on Jun 10, 1890. Estate receipts were $709.69 and the executor had paid out $745.13.17
Adam presented his second accounting of David's estate on Sep 16, 1892. It appears that he took out a $2400 mortgage on David's land in order to pay some large debts, including notes from Henry and William Langel, and William Kistler. As of this accounting, Adam has spent approximately $200 more to settle the estate than he has recovered.18
Adam filed a third account of David's estate on Nov 21, 1893. Adam had spent another $270, but only brought in $52, leaving him due $434. He requested an extension on closing the estate because there was a Court of Common Pleas case pending against Thomas Looker that should bring in more money (it is possible that this is in regards to the money Thomas spent at the estate auction, which would be about $200).19
Adam submitted his fourth account of David's estate on Jul 13, 1895. The estate had brought in $206, mostly from the sale of grain, but had spent $230, mostly on a mortgage payment. By this date, Eliza (the widow) had died; according to the will, the land was to be sold and the proceeds divided among the heirs. There is no record in the probate file of this having happened; it is possible that the mortgage complicated things. Another unaswered question is how Eliza got the real estate she is shown as owning in a subsequent census..20
Adam was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Liberty Township, Fairfield Co, OH. Adam, William, Jacob, and David were farmers. They owned the farm, with a mortgage. Both Adam and Jacob had agriculture schedule line numbers (23 & 24), suggesting that Jacob had his own land, even though he was living with Adam and Susan. Adam and Susan had been married 41 years; Susan had borne 7 children, all of whom were still living. William, Jacob, David and Emma were all single. All read, wrote and spoke English; none had been to school in the last year.7
His grandchildren Harry and Cora lived with him in Basil, Fairfield Co, OH, in Jun, 1902.21

Charles Langel, Jennie Langel, (back row, fourth and third from right)
The obvious guess is that the older couple is Adam and Susan Langle. Some of the boys in front are probably Everett's brothers, and I would guess that the little girl at right on the middle row is Louanna. Does that make the baby with Jennie Everett?

Adam Langel died on Sep 29, 1904 in at home, Etna, Licking Co, OH, at age 68. He died of apoplexy.22,23 An obituary was published on Oct 1, 1904 in the Newark Advocate in Newark, Licking Co, OH.23 He was buried at Pataskala Cemetery, in Pataskala, Licking Co, in OH.24
