     "On March 30, 1873, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized with five men and eight women as charter members. They were: Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Garver, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Diehl, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Stimmel, Mr. and Mrs. John Gebhart, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Tressin, Miss Ida Tressin, Miss Elizabeth Young, and Miss Josie Young.

The first services were held over C. W. Tressin's store which was located at the corner of Santa Fe Avenue and Ash Streets.... The first Communion was held May 11, 1873.

...In April 1874 the congregation rented the old Methodist Church building on North Seventh Street for $15.00 a month."
