     James was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Lincoln Co, MO. James was a farmer, with $3200 in real property. James Jr. was a laborer. Martha and William were in school. Elizabeth couldn't read and write. A Mary Martin, 3, was living with the family.2
     James Smith died on Apr 1, 1867 in Lincoln Co, MO, at age 67.1
     Taylor and Elizabeth, along with her parents, James and Elizabeth Smith, were founding members of Smith Chapel. The church was originially organized in a brush arbor near the Smith school. A church building was built in 1871.3
