The story I heard on them, was that Samuel Strickler was so worried that when he was gone, that someone would cheat his daughters out of his money. So he set up a lease on a business building he owned in LA on a 99 year lease for their income and stipulated that their home was never to be sold. If it was sold, the money would go to charity. The lease was set up during the depression, and bought a good sum of money then. Unfortunately, by the 1960's it wasn't much to live on. The house was beautiful and in a wealthy part of LA, unfortunately it changed over the years, and when we went to visit them, the neighbor was entirely black. They said it was fine then, but during the change from white to black there had been lots of problems."11

Strickler Family in California
The original of this picture is very small and blurry, so this is as good as it gets. I think the woman and man on the stools are Sadie and Samuel Strickler. I'm told Madeline and Myrtle were small women, so they may be the two standing behind Sadie and Samuel.
On the back, the picture has a stamp from a Los Angeles photo developer service with the date July 31, 1933.
