Funeral services for Marlyn L. Hays, age 74 of Brookings, will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 5, 2009, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery at Brookings.
Marlyn L. Hays, son of Clarence and Helen (Phillipson) Hays, was born November 29, 1934, in Brookings, South Dakota. He grew up and received his education in Brookings and worked as a lineman for R.E.A. Marlyn was united in marriage to Donna Rae Clark on April 4, 1953, in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. In 1969 they moved to Vermillion, South Dakota where he continued to work for R.E.A. and when they retired in 1996 they returned to Brookings and lived at Lake Campbell. He was also employed at Rainbow Play Systems from 2000 to 2005. Donna Rae died on March 6, 2003. Marlyn entered the United Retirement Center in August of 2009 and died there on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the age of 74 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a life time member of the North American Hunting Club. Marlyn also enjoyed tinkering in his yard.
He is survived by his children, Michael Hays of Orofina, ID, Sheila Beaudette and her husband George of Bloomfield, NE, Douglas Hays and his wife Janice of Beresford, SD, Bryan Hays and his friend Sherri of Sioux City, IA, Scott Hays of Brookings, Dolly Bedford and her husband Allen of Black Hawk, SD; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one brother Dale Hays of Quincy, CA; three sisters, Shirley Steever of Vermillion, SD, Sharon Alexander of Sioux Falls, SD and LaVonne Knutson and her husband Wallace of Brookings.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his wife Donna Rae, his parents and two brothers.
