Loyal Phetteplace, Sr., 89, of Chetek, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Knapp Haven Nursing Home, Chetek.
He was born April 22, 1911, in Barron County, Wis., to Welcome and Clara (Slayton) Phetteplace. He married Mabel Herta Johnsen on June 8, 1937, in Racine. Loyal was a jack of all trades ( he was a general contractor, performing skills of carpentry, plumbing and electrical; he was a master machinist, a silver and goldsmith; he owned and operated the Twin Lakes Tavern for 20 years, east of Chetek and also had owned and operated Ten Mile Lake Resort on the Chetek Chain for 10 years. He had been in Civil Air Patrol; enjoyed working with turquoise and stained glass; and was a member of Z.C.B.J. Lodge. Loyal enjoyed the outdoors and the wilderness.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel of Chetek; three sons, Loyal, Jr., Wesley and Harvey (Irene), all of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two daughters, Sylvia (Gerald) Kendzior of Chippewa Falls and Nancy (Thomas) Rock of Delavan, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Vera Sirinek of Ariz.; 14 brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home, Chetek, with Pastor Calvin Tremblin officiating. Burial was made at Twin Lakes Cemetery, rural Chetek.
