Vera Delores Phetteplace, 78, of River Falls and formerly of the Chetek area, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital, River Falls.
She was born Nov. 6, 1921, near Chetek to Smith Robert and Nellie (Hewitt) James. She married Otto Raymond Phetteplace Jan. 14, 1940, at Island Lake, Wis., and was a homemaker all her life. In the past she had enjoyed fishing and had even been a hunter; enjoyed sewing and especially embroidering; she loved a good game of cards and liked playing "Book And A Run", "Hearts" and "Canasta." Her favorite showman was Lawrence Welk and Lee Marvin was her favorite actor; she enjoyed country music and especially liked Johnny Cash; she loved flowers, but especially purple and yellow Pansies.
Survivors include two sons, Otto Raymond (Rosie) of Somerset, Wis., and James George (Kay) of Kalispell, Mont.; four daughters, Carol Jean (Richard) Thompson of Fridley, Minn., Betty Marie (Kenneth) Olson of Burtrum, Minn., Vera Lee (Ralph) Thompson of East Bethel, Minn., and April Ann (Tony) Lymer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 18 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 22 great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; one brother, Robert James of New Auburn; three sisters, Wilma (Harry) Solie of Cutoff, La., Hazel (Ed) Sinclair of Minnetonka, Minn., and Donna (Dick) Martinson of Bruce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Smith Robert and Nellie (Hewitt) James; one brother, Bud James; and two sisters, Thelma Peters and Ruth Plummer.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Burnham-Ours Funeral Home, Chetek, with Pastor Ed McClurken officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
