C. E. MERCER DIES
PASSES AWAY LATE THURSDAY, FUNERAL SATURDAY
Underwent Operation On Throat Recently, Complications Later Develop
Clarence Edmund Mercer, 64, for 26 years a Salina resident and proprietor of the Salina Printing company, died at 6 oclock Thursday evening, at Asbury hospital. He had been ill for some time and shortly before Christmas underwent an operation for a throat tumor. Unfavorable developments made his condition grave, though he rallied and was up town several times, fighting to regain his health in the face of discouragements.
Mr. Mercer was a native of Kansas, being born at Burlingame October 17, 1870. He leaves one son, Ed Mercer, who has been associated with him in the printing plant. Mrs. Amelia Mercer, his wife, died September 7, 1931. There are two sisters, Mrs. Florence Porter, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Birdie Palmer, Pearland, Tex.
Living for more than a quarter of a century in Salina, the family home for years having been on Highland avenue in recent years, Mr. Mercer was identified with several lodges, including the Masonic bodies, the U. C. T., the K. of P. and Sons of Veterans. He was also a qualified printer, a member of Salina's local number 638 of the International Typographical Union.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 4 oclock at the Ryan-Sullivan Mortuary, where the body will lie in state until that time. Rev. B. R. Lantz will be in charge and interment is to be in Gypsum Hill cemetery.
