Defense Housing Bureaus Given Priority Rating on WPA Workers
Defense priority ratings were accorded to the WPA rental information offices in Southern California by the office of emergency management this week.
Among those affected is the Long Beach Home Registration bureau which has been given a $36,000 WPA appropriation. Approximately 23 WPA clerical workers on the job now. Wells A. Rathbun is the director of the bureau. The priority rating gives the bureau preference in assignment of WPA workers.
Meanwhile, a special meeting of the Los Angeles County Civilian Defense Council is being planned for early this week to outline the housing registration program.
Every available room, apartment and residence will be listed for possible occupancy by defense workers.
Long Beach members of the county defense council are Councilman Carl Fletcher, Mrs. Fred E. Helwig, Walter Lynch, James K. Reid and Arthur H. Adams.
Other rental offices are in Pasadena, Glendale, Inglewood, and North Hollywood.
