Ralph E. DeWitt
Ralph E. DeWitt, 73, a retired civil service employee and a former resident of Chapman, died last Wednesday at St. Mary's hospital in Manhattan.
Mr. DeWitt retired in 1960 as superintendent of utilities and grounds at Fort Riley, where he was employed under civil service for 35 years.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. DeWitt was born June 2, 1895 in Pawnee county, Nebr.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie L. DeWitt, of the home; one son, Dwain E. DeWitt, Denver Colo; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert LaPorte, Goodland and five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Albert DeWitt of Chapman.
Requiem High Mass was at the Seven Dolors Catholic church at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Burial was in Sunset cemetery.
