Eldon M. De Witt 1917 - 2001

HUTCHINSON - Eldon M. DeWitt, 83, Hutchinson, formerly of Marquette, passed
away Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Hester Care Center in Hutchinson.
Eldon was born August 5, 1917 at Chapman, Kansas, son of Clarence and Daisy
(Hunsinger) DeWitt.

He was united in marriage to Julia Schwerdtfager on April 16, 1944 at
Salina. They farmed for over 40 years south of Marquette. Eldon was also a
well known carpenter in the area. They spent six years in Buhler before
moving to the Hester Center in Hutchinson one year ago.

Memberships include the Buhler United Methodist Church, Buhler, and the
Marquette American Legion, Marquette.

Eldon served his country well in the Army during World War II. He received
the Purple Heart for being wounded.

Survivors include three sons, James (Vicky) DeWitt, Wichita, Kenneth (Rosie)
DeWitt, Salina, and Thomas (Bonnie) DeWitt, Falun; two daughters, Lois
(Jerry) Rupert, Beverly, and Linda Crane, Buhler; one sister, Leona Fleagle,
Hiawatha; one brother, Elmer DeWitt, Chapman; nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2001 in the
Marquette United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Rose and Pastor Larry
Brock officiating. Burial was in the Excelsior Cemetery, south and west of
Marquette.

Memorials may be made to the Buhler United Methodist Church, or the Hester
Care Center, Hutchinson.
