Eldon M. DeWitt

Eldon M. DeWitt, 83, died Jan. 23, 2001, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 5, 1917, at Chapman, the son of Clarence and Daisy Hunsinger DeWitt. He had been a Buhler resident for six years, formerly living in Marquette for 40 years. He attended Chapman High School and was a carpenter and farmer.

He belonged to Buhler United Methodist Church and the American Legion, and served on South Sharps Creek Township Board. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On April 16, 1944, he married Julia Schwerdtfager at Salina. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, James, Wichita, Kenneth, Salina, and Thomas, Falun; two daughters, Lois Rupert, Beverly, and Linda Crane, Buhler; a brother, Elmer, Chapman; a sister, Leona Fleagle, Hiawatha; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Marquette, with Pastors Mike Rose and Larry Brock presiding. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Olson's Funeral Home, Marquette. Burial will be in Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette.

Memorials may be sent to the Hester Care Center, Hutchinson, or to Buhler United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
