Clarence M. DeWitt
Clarence M. DeWitt, son of Elisha and Flora DeWitt, was born March 13, 1885 at Dubois, Nebraska and died July 6, 1956 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas.
On September 26, 1916 he was married to Daisy Leona Hunsinger of Hutchinson, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Eldon of Marquette; Mrs. Leona Fleagle of Abilene and Albert and Elmer of Chapman. The survivors also include two brothers, Ralph DeWitt of Manhattan, John Barlett DeWitt of Wamego and ten grandchildren. His wife, Daisy Leona, died Nov. 1, 1945.
Coming to Chapman as a young man in 1913, Mr. DeWitt found his place in the community as a useful citizen. As a husband and father, he reared a family that has been a credit to his influence as a parent.
He was an active member of the fraternal order of Odd Fellows and shared in the ideals and objectives of that organization.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church with the Rev. E. N. Judd officiating. The soloist, Robert Detrich, was accompanied by Miss Barbara Schlatter.
Graveside services were conducted by the IOOF and burial made in the Indian Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Zaiss, Vern Sherraden, Eldon Lay, Ed Hasselman, Clarence Delker, Glenn Elliott.
