Elisha DeWitt
Following an illness of several weeks, Mr. Elisha DeWitt who has been a resident of Chapman since 1913, died at his home here Sunday afternoon from uremic poisoning.
Mr. DeWitt was a quiet unassuming christian man who was greatly beloved by his friends. During the three years he lived in Chapman he made many friends who extend their warmest sympathy to the bereaved family.
Obituary
Elisha DeWitt was born in Blackford county Indiana, July 6, 1848 and died December 17, 1916 being 68 years 5 months and 11 days of age.
When he was ten years old, with his parents, he came to Nemaha county, Neb. Here he was married to Miss Flora Shellhorn. to this union were born nine children, five of whom died in infancy. The four living children are Clarence M. John Bartlett, and Ralph DeWitt and Mrs. Effie Hays all of Chapman.
Mr. DeWitt came to Kansas in the fall of 1910 and resided for three years in Ellsworth county, coming to Chapman in 1913 which has been his place of residence until his death.
Besides his good wife and his children he is survived by two brothers S. J. DeWitt of Chapman and L. W. DeWitt of DuBois Neb. and three sisters Mrs. Lizzie Shellhorn and Mrs. Emma Caswell of DuBois, Neb, and Mrs. Christina Britt of Atchison Kansas. These together with other relatives and friends of the family mourn his departure.
The funeral services were held at the residence Mon. Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. Rev. L. B. Dobbs officiating. Interment at De Bois Neb.

L. W. DeWitt, Mrs. Lizzie Shellhorn, Wm. Britt and Chas Shellhorn of Dubois Neb. and Mrs. Jennie Brady and M. M. Shellhorn of Carneiro, Kans., Clyde DeWitt of Longford were in Chapman attending the funeral of Elisha DeWitt.
