Last Rites For An Early Settler
Services For E. C. Moore At Athol Saturday
The funeral of Eward C. Moore, aged ninety years, an early settler of the Athol community, was held last Saturday afternoon from the Congregational church in Athol. The services were conducted by Ira N. Faurot, pastor of the Presbyterian church and burial was made in the Pleasant View cemetery near Athol.
September 30 marked the passing of another of Smith County's grand old pioneers,[sic] Edard Cane Moore, youngest son of Ann and Armstrong Moore, was born at Springgreen[sic], Wis. May 26, 1958[sic] and died Sept. 30, 1948, at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 4 days, at the home of his daughter, Tina Epley in Franklin, Nebr.
He leaves to mourn their loss six daughters and one son: Mae Arthurs of Chicago, Ill; Forrest Moore of Smith Center; Grace Coffman of Creston, Nebr; Tine Epley of Franklin; Ruth Winscheffel of Portland, Oregon; Ione Boyce of Franklin; Hazel Atchison of Kirwin; sixteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. His beloved wife and son, Raley preceded him in death. Also his son-in-law, Carl Epley, whom he greatly missed, passed away a year ago.
Mr. Moore had a simple philosophy of life, the golden rule which he practiced in his daily living. No friend was ever disappointed in coming to him for material aid or sympathy. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He came to Smith County, Kansas, in the year 1876, where he homesteaded. He was always proud of the fact that he aided in making Smith County what it is today. At the time of his death he still owned the original homestead. He bore his illness of the past year despite severe suffering, with such fortitude that his children will always remember his uncomplaining patience.
