Children Taken From Mrs. Conn
ABILENE -- The parental rights of Mrs. Charles Conn, Solomon, for six of her seven surviving children were permanently severed Wednesday afternoon in Dickinson County Juvenile Court.
The children were awarded to the custody of the state department of social welfare by Probate Judge John Dieter. Judge Dieter said they probably will be placed in a boarding home for eventual adoption.
Killed In Wreck
Mrs. Conn's husband, Charles, 50, and two daughters, Donna Marie, 16, and Joyce Ann, 4, were killed in a car-truck collision June 23 near Kipp.
Also injured in the crash were James Ronald 10; Merlin Lynn, 7; Gary David, 6, and Melvin Lee, 5. All still are in St. John's Hospital where their condition is satisfactory.
Three of the nine Conn children, Charles jr., Raymond and Alvin, and Mrs. Conn were not in the car at the time of the accident.
Charles jr., 18, is the only surviving child not affected by the court action. Since he is 18, he is considered self dependent.
Judge Dieter said testimony Wednesday showed that Mrs. Conn was not at home after Monday, June 20, which was three days prior to the accident.
