Hundreds of friends and relatives are mourning the death of Mrs. Marvin Shipley of Lebanon, "Kitty Lou" to a large circle of acquaintances. She was a victim of one of mankind's most ruthless foes -- cancer, passing away July 23, 1959, at the University of Kansas City Medical Center in Kansas City.
Memorial services were held from the Methodist church in Lebanon, July 28, with the Reverends Harry Walz and John Maxim officiating. Interment was in Sweet Home cemetery.
Memorial gifts, totaling $100.15, were donated to the cancer fund in tribute to Mrs. Shipley.
Obituary: Kathryn Louise Shipley, better known among her friends and relatives as Kitty Lou, the third child of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hays, was born in Smith Center, Kan., on January 23, 1930, and passed to her rest under the hand of the great physician who heals all diseases, on July 23, 1959, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., at the age of 29 years and 6 months. She attended the Reamsville Grade School near Smith Center and graduated from the Smith Center High School in 1948. In 1950 the family moved to the Lebanon community. On February 11, 1951, she became a member of the Methodist church of Lebanon and was faithful to that church until her death.
On August 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to Marvin Shipley. To that union three children were born. After her husband finished his time in the service of the country, they made their home in Lebanon, moving to a farm west of Lebanon in the fall of 1954, which was their home at the time of her passing.
Kitty Lou had a triangle of interests. She loved her home and family, the farm in which she was an active partner and the church of which she was a member. She was always a worker as a youngster and as a wife for she wanted to do her part to make the efforts succeed. Many in the community will remember her activity in the athletic events of high school and especially her active and important place on the local girls softball team.
Left to mourn her loss and to cherish memories are her husband, Marvin, of Lebanon, and her three children, Penny Linn, Patty Jo and Matthew Henry (Matt), all of whom shall grow to adulthood as a testimony to their mother. Also surviving are her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hays, of Lebanon and three brothers: Kenny Hays of Lebanon; Keith Hays of San Jose, Calif.; and Bill Hays of Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Joan Roush of Lebanon and Mrs. Joyce Brown of Inavale, Nebr.
Attended Shipley Rites
