Hays - Langel
The marriage of Sondra Margaret Hays, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin M. Hays, 1106 Highland, and Benjamin Charles Langel, was solemnized at 3 pm June 21 at the First Covenant church.
Mr. Langel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett A. Langel, 508 Fairdale Road.
Baskets of white Fugie mums and burning tapers in arch candelabra formed the altar setting for the ceremony. The Rev. Arne E. Mars read the marriage service, and musicians were Mrs. Milton Thelander and Larry M. Hays, brother of the bride, who sang.
Mr. Hays gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a floor-length bridal gown of sheer organza over taffeta. The basque bodice was styled with lace yoke enhanced with sequins, and sleeves that tapered to the wrists. The bouffant skirt was accented with a half circle lace scroll adorned with rolled roses of lace, and an aisle-wide train.
The elbow-length veil of English illusion was attached to a petite lace pillbox edged with pearls and ornamented with an organza rose etched with sequins. The bridal bouquet was a cascade of white roses.
Mrs. Gerard Zemler, Salina, sister of the bride, was bride's matron, and John H. Wherry, Olathe, Kas., was best man for Mr. Langel.
Mrs. Zemler's dress was a mint green silk organza over taffeta, the snug bodice designed with scoop neckline. The skirt was bouffant. She carried a bouquet of white Fugie mums.
Escorting the guests were James P. Hays, Salina, brother of the bride, and two former Salinans, Donald A. West, Kansas City, and Jon Clark Marshall, Lawrnence.
Small individual silk organza and net bags of rice were distributed by Jerry [sic] and Joni Zemler, nephew and niece of the bride.
The wedding reception for relatives and close friends was in the social rooms of the church. Mrs. Hays received in an afternoon ensemble of blue lace. She and the mother of the bridegroom wore consages [sic] of white Phaelonopsis orchids.
Mr. Langel and his bride left on a wedding trip to Colorado, Mrs. Langel traveling in a navy blue suit of raw silk. They will be at home after July 1 at 627 W. 25th street in Lawrence.
