     He married Harriett Isabelle "Belle" Hays on Jan 24, 1906.5,6,7,8,3,4
     They resided in Smith Co, KS, in Feb, 1906, in farm 5 mi southwest Smith Center.8
     A census listed Francis as head of household in Banner Township, Smith Co, KS, on Sep 10, 1910. Francis was a farmer, with a mortgaged farm, and the children were in school. Francis and Harriett's marriage was a second for both; Harriett had had four children, three still living..9
     Francis M. McElfresh and Harriett Isabelle "Belle" McElfresh appeared on the census of Jan 16, 1920 in Banner Township, Smith Co, KS; Francis owned a farm, with a mortgage, and he and the boys were working it.2
     Francis was listed as the head of a family on the 1930 Census in Banner Township, Smith Co, KS. Francis, Harold and George were working the family farm. They had a radio.3
