Clarence O. Hays, 92, of Red Bluff, died Jan. 9, 2001, at Cottonwood Care Center in Woodland. He was born Dec. 1, 1908 in Smith Center, Kan., to Orice and Effie Hays. Clarence was raised and attended schools in Smith Center, Kan. He married Dorothy Green in Reno, Nev., in 1948. Clarence worked as a heavy equipment operator in both Plumas County and Nevada for the majority of his life. He was a member of the C.B. Radio Patrol. In the late 1940s he moved to Plumas County and lived in Meadow Valley until moving to Red Bluff in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1997; and his son, Roger, in 1996. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Stevers, LaVonne Knutsen, Sharon Alexander, all of South Dakota, and Kaye Hall of Red Bluff; sons, Dale of Meadow Valley, Marlin of South Dakota, and Orin of Red Bluff; brother, Delbert Hays; sisters, Rosie and Pearl Hays, both of Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held in Meadow Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
