BIRTHDAY PARTY.
A pleasant little party of our people assembled at the residence of Mr. Gustave C. Dihle last Friday evening about eight o'clock, it being the occasion of the fiftyeighth birth-anniversary of that gentleman. The gathering was something in the nature of a surprise to Mr. D. but his good natured wife was a particeps eriminis--one of the conspirator in the matter.
Without warning they invaded his house and without provocation farther than that he was just fiftyeight years old one of the most genial of our good citizens Dr. O. E. Sperry proceeded on the part of many friends to present him with a beautiful set of silver knives and forks and spoons. Mr. D. was quite overcome with the surprise and was hardly able to thank his friends but he soon recovered himself and music was called in and dancing inaugurated and the old gentleman proved that the fifty-eight summers of sunshine and the storms of as many winters had not lost him much of that grace in the waltz which won him the best partners in the "Fatherland" years ago, for he trod the boards, in the waltz, in a way to put to the blush most of our young men. At ten o'clock Mrs. Dihle served an elegant lunch of coffee and cake which commanded the undivided attention of all present, after which the dancing was resumed until midnight.
The JOURNAL extends its hearty congratulations to its respected townsman on the attainment of his fifty-eighth year and hope that we may be able to eat the cake and record the pleasant doings of similar occasions in his behalf for as many more.
While we know that we are liable to bring a blush to our old friend's cheek we must say that Mr. Dihle is a good citizen in all the term implies, is entitled to and has the kindly regard of all our good people who rejoice with him in this anniversary.
