Samantha (Langel) Johnson
Samantha (Langel) Johnson, daughter of Adam and Mary (McDonald) Langel, was born Nov. 20, 1847 near Lancaster, Ohio and passes to her eternal home on March 29, 1935, aged 87 years, 4 months and 9 days.
The family removed to Mercer County when she was six years of age, residing in and adjacent to Ft. Recovery since that date.
She was united in marriage with William Johnson of Fort Recovery, O. on March 7, 1867; who preceded her in death a number of years ago. Nine children blessed this union; Elma Johnson Rapp, deceased, Florence Johnson McDaniel of Oakland, Cal., Edward C. Johnson of Chicago, Ill., Harry R. Johnson, deceased, Frank E. Johnson, New York City, Roscoe R. Johnson, deceased, Zella Johnson, deceased, Ethel M. Johnson, Ft. Recovery and Wm. L. Johnson of Chicago. There are four surviving grandchildren. The deceased was a woman of refined personality; possessing unusual traits of womanly character and culture. She cherished her home as one of Heaven's best blessings and presided over it with faultless grace and dignity. She was reared in the faith of the Covenanters, later uniting with the First Christian church in Fort Recovery and still later became a member of the united Congregational-Christian Church.
Services were conducted from the home Sunday at 2 P.M. in charge of Rev. J. E. Etter. Interment was made in Greenmound.
