FLORA VIRGINIA DEWITT

Flora Virginia Shellhorn, daughter of John and Lucinda Shellhorn, was born December 3, 1858 at Du Bois, Nebraska, and departed this life on June 11, 1944, and the Abilene hospital at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 8 days.

She was united in marriage to Elisha Dewitt on April 2, 1874. To this union were born eight children. The husband and five children have preceded her in death.

Those left to mourn her passing are her three sons: Clarence Dewitt, Chapman; John Bartlett Dewitt, of Westmoreland; and Ralph Dewitt, Ogden. There are also twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.

The family came to Kansas in 1910 and moved to Chapman in 1913 where she has resided since that time.

She has been a lifelong member of the United Brethern [sic] church and was a regular attendant at all services here until her age and failing health kept her at home.

Funeral services were held at the Federated church, Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock with the Rev. C. M. Gambriell in charge. Mrs. H. E. Clingenpeel and Mrs. Lawrence Wilson, accompanied by Miss Madeline Clingenpeel on the violin, and Miss Susanne Leatherman, on the piano sang two duet numbers.

Pallbearers were: Joe Frazier, Glen Miller, Ira T. Koogle, Oliver Phillips, Chas. O'Connor, and W. E. Darby.

The body was taken to Du Bois, Nebraska were interment was made in the family lot at 4 o'clock Tuesday.
