Mrs. Phetteplace Died November 19 In Hastings Hospital
Amirah Kimball was born March 19, 1884, in Smith county. Her parents, Edwin M. Kimball and Frances (Dierdorff) Kimball were farmers of Smith county. She had four brothers and three sisters. One brother, Charles is still living in California.
Amirah attended Smith Center high school. After graduation she taught in various schools for several years.
She was married to Winnie Phetteplace and to that union were born two children, Ivan and Melba, both of whom died during the past year which was a great shock and loss to their mother.
She became a member of the Presbyterian church in 1934. After being away for many years, she returned to the community in 1951 where she was an active and faithful member in the church and missionary group to which she belonged.
Amirah died Nov. 19, 1969 in a hospital in Hastings, Nebr. She is survived by her brother, Charles, of California, her daughter-in-law, Bernice, of Smith Center; also by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 21, 1969, at 10:30 a.m. from Simmons chapel in Smith Center with the Rev. Francis E. Spear officiating. Laura Burgess and Donna Ayres were vocalists, accompanied by Frances Gibson.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery with Arden Dierdorff, LaBal Ayres, Clare Morgan, Melvin Post, Carl Gardner and Frank Sheets as pallbearers.
