Sgt. Godfrey Is Prisoner of Nazis

T/Sgt. John J. Godfrey, listed "missing in action," Aug. 24, while on his 12th mission with the AAF over Czechslovakia (sic), is now a prisoner of war in Germany, the war department has informed his wife, the former Irene Langel, of Kirkersville.

A radio gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber, Godfrey was based in Italy at the time he was listed missing. He enlisted in the AAF in April 1942 and embarked for foreign duty last July.

The son of Mrs. Ellen Godfrey of Syracuse, N. Y., where he was employed until enlistment in the army air forces, Godfrey was previously a native of Kirkersville. He was married to Miss Langel, an employe (sic) of the Park National Bank, last June.
