Effie Vida DeWitt
Effie Viola DeWitt Hays, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha DeWitt, was born at Dubois, Neb., April 8, 1888 where her early life was spent. She was married in 1907 to Orice Lee Hays. They resided in DuBois until 1912 when they came to Chapman.
To this union were born seven sons, Clarence of Brookings, S. Dak.; Lowell, Salina; Mervin, Vernon, Clein, James and Delbert of the home. One son, Olin Neil, died in infancy. Six girls, Mrs. Verda Lady, Salina; Lila Belle, Pearl, Rosalee and Nelda of the home. One daughter, Ila Loretta died at the age of 11 months.
Besides these to mourn her loss are five grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Flora Dewitt, of Chapman; John Bartlett of Salina and Ralph DeWitt of Ogden.
Mrs. Hays passed away, Dec. 29, at the age of 47 years, 8 months and 20 days at her home in Salina, where she resided the past seven years.
Funeral services were held at the Federated church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. L. F. Arend, of the University church of Salina, had charge of the service. Rev. J. P. Wilely assisted. Interment was in the Indian Hill Cemetery.
